Economics and Statistics

The MPO department charged with economics and statistics is headed up by economist Dr Koos Coetzee, who holds a PhD in agricultural economics. He is responsible for the industry information project of Milk SA and also represents the South African dairy industry on international bodies such as the International Dairy Federation (IDF) and International Farm Comparison Network (IFCN).

In 2016, the South African primary dairy industry consisted of:

to produce >3 billion litres of milk and has a turnover of >R15 billion a year.
