New research under way

What makes European dairy consumers tick? The European Investment Bank (EIB) invested millions of euros in finding out. They recently signed a €150 million loan with FrieslandCampina to conduct research on dairy products in Europe and develop them.

FrieslandCampina, one of the world’s largest companies of its kind, is active in over 100 countries. “The EIB is proud to support a  Dutch company of such long standing”, said EIB Vice-President Pim van Ballekom. “Milk and its derivatives are central to most people’s diets and the importance of the research on and development of the products they consume should not be underestimated.”

The company will use the funding for research and development activities in facilities around Europe, with the lion’s share of the action being carried out in its innovation centre in Wageningen in The Netherlands. The activities will focus on the areas of nutrition, food structuring, packaging and process technology, as well as on aspects of the sensory and dietary demands on dairy products.
