Be sure not to miss the MPO national congress

Be sure not to miss the MPO’s National Congress with the theme “Sustainable dairy farming”, which will be held at Lythwood Lodge, KwaZulu-Natal on 7 September this year. Our keynote speaker, Jude L. Capper, PhD, is an independent livestock sustainability consultant based in Oxfordshire, the United Kingdom. Jude’s research focuses on modelling the environmental impact of livestock production systems, specifically dairy and beef, including the effect of specific management practices and technology use. Her professional goal is to communicate the importance of factors affecting the sustainability of the livestock industry to enhance the knowledge and understanding of food production stakeholders from the rancher and farmer through to the retailer, policymaker and consumer. Her topic at the Congress will be:  How do we maintain dairy sustainability in an ever-changing world?

Rob Caskie will be acting as the Master of Ceremonies at the gala dinner and will also be our after-dinner speaker.  He describes himself as follows: As a master storyteller I share human stories that engage audiences and challenge the way they interact, work and lead their lives.  My stories are essentially about human beings in extremis, and their behaviour when ‘the chips are down’.  Like tea bags, human beings only reveal their true strength in hot water. Epics of human struggle and triumphs of the human spirit create fantastic canvasses by which modern situations may be measured.  Specialising in South African history, early Antarctic exploration and the Sudan campaign, the lessons that emerge from these great, well-told stories are utterly appropriate today.

Please contact Julie as soon as possible to book your place at the congress at julie@mpo.co.za or 012 843 5638.  The registration form can also be downloaded from the MPO website: https://www.mpo.co.za/en/mpo-annual-congress
