Milk production decreases

According to information supplied by Milk SA, milk production decreased by 3,2% from November 2015 to December 2015. Production in December is estimated at 3,5% less than in December 2014. The main reasons for the lower production are the unfavourable milk : feed price ratio caused by the decrease in producer prices in 2015 and the sharp increase in grain prices, the extremely hot and dry conditions during December and the current and projected scarcity of roughage. Further decreases in milk production are expected for coming months.
