Sharp decline in UHT milk imports

In January 2016 only 31 tons of UHT milk was imported, compared to average imports of 233 tons per month in 2015. Total imports for January 2016 equalled 3 109 tons while 15 712 tons were exported. The weaker rand and possible higher stock levels limited imports. Although milk production growth has slowed down to negative levels, it is not anticipated that there will be significant shortages of dairy products in 2016.
