Cendel, as the MPO’s Centre for Producer Development is known, was created in 2007. Cendel works in close cooperation with the Institute for Dairy Technology, especially with regard to the training of developing farmers, extension officers and farm workers. Developing farmers are empowered through Cendel’s mentorship programmes. The scope of mentorship ranges from subsistence levels to commercially viable projects. The MPO is actively involved in 12 projects in the Western Cape, Northwest Province and Free State. Funding for the costs of these mentorship programmes is provided by Agriseta, provincial departments of Agriculture as well as from the statutory levy that is administered by Milk SA.
