2014 Milk production lags behind 2013

Milk production for the first five months of 2014 is estimated at 1 billion litres, 0,12% less than the same period last year. In May 2014, 218 million litres of milk was delivered to dairies, up 2,2% on 2013. In April, milk production was 0,5% up on 2013, after two months of negative production growth. Producer prices in most production areas did increase in 2014 and grain prices are lower. However, there are still areas where farmers still receive relatively low prices. Lower grain prices still affect the prices of balanced rations and concentrates. Milk production will probably increase only marginally during the remainder of 2014.
