UK wholesaler fined for illegal repackaging milk powder

A London-based wholesaler, TRS Wholesale, pleaded guilty to two charges of breaching UK food hygiene regulations by repackaging milk powder illegally and was fined more than £15 000 (R266 000) by a British court. According to EU law, wholesale businesses must gain specific approval before repackaging products of animal origin. An investigation was initiated in April 2013 after the UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) established that TRS Wholesale was repackaging milk powder without the necessary approval. This was followed by a remedial action notice and the withdrawal of more than 3 000 kg of repackaged milk powder from the market. To read more, click HERE.
